Yeah, A Different World wasn't bad. Of course, it was a show about college students and I was a barely a teen so I suppose it wasn't written for a very mature audience. I'm guessing it wouldn't be nearly as entertaining 20+ years later.

Strange isn't it? Perhaps it's because these connections are a bit of a two-way street, and whereas Saved By The Bell felt the need to ingratiate itself in as many directions as possible, The Cosby Show felt its brand was strong enough to stand on its own?

I suspect the main reason, however, was each time Saved By The Bell got to the end of a season, all the cast were about 20 and suddenly finding it pretty tricky to pass for 16 year olds!

Can't say I ever say A Different World to judge its various merits though. Was it any good?

It's amazing to see The Cosby Show, for as popular as it was, only had one spinoff. Meanwhile, Saved By The Bell had like fifteen.

Well, exactly, which makes me think that pacifism is the best thing to support in a Western Democracy.

Not that it's likely to be the case that the people will be able to stop all the wars, but standing in the way as often as possible might at least reduce the number and severity of conflicts.

A world-wide ‘policing’ force to protect people sounds ideal. Unfortunately, so long as there are precious resources to be funneled out, it's first-come-first-serve(steal) business as usual for the West. God forbid natural resources should be shared or left alone. After all, what else is the point of fighting, to bring peace?

I know - scary stuff. And not information that tends to be spread around on either side of the Atlantic, but it's all well-documented. It's sad, because I think there can be a genuine role for a world-wide 'policing' force to protect people - I mean look at what went on in Dafur and Kosovo - but this isn't where the largest powers tend to place a priority...

"The war is not meant to be won, it is meant to be continuous."
-George Orwell

Wow. That article scared the crap out of me. Perhaps most revealing/shocking were the facts regarding the US's involvement in Afghanistan's heroin/poppy production and Regan's comparing Islamic rebels (including Bin Laden) on the White House lawn, to America's founding fathers.

Sweet! I hadn't seen that Amnesiac hardback edition out of the shrinkwrap.

I actually owned Kid A on cassette. The interior art j-card panels stretched out to make a beautiful, icy, austere landscape.

I remember looking at it while listening, thinking, how appropriate it was given the cold, electronics and minimalist lyrics.

I think the OK Computer stuff matches the album best, although I love the Amnesiac hardback library book edition - complete with its own library card!
